🎮 ABOUT THE GAME
Besides verbs, adjectives, conjunctions, and so on, there’s something else you need to understand first if you want to make sentences in English: prepositions. They’re really important! In Indonesian, you might sometimes make small writing mistakes without even realizing it. For example, you might write sentences like, “Aku pergi kerumah Herni, ya!” (“I’m going to Herni’s house!”), “Ayah sekarang ada dimana?” (“Where is Dad right now?”), or “Dibalik pintu ada tas, ambilkan ya.” (“There’s a bag behind the door, could you get it for me?”).
These mistakes usually happen because we misunderstand how Indonesian prepositions work. For example, when you’re talking about a place, the prefixes di- and ke- should be written separately.
Otherwise, the sentence can be incorrect and may even change the meaning. Take the word “dibalik,” for example. If di- isn’t separated, “dibalik” can mean that someone is turning something over instead of describing the location “behind.” A preposition is a word or group of words placed before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, location, time, position, or the relationship between things.
Prepositions help show the relationship between words in a sentence. Many prepositions give you information about where something is located or when an event happens. Examples include on, under, at, and many others.
In English, there are several types of prepositions, including prepositions of direction, place, and time.
Prepositions show how words are connected within a sentence. They often tell you where something is located or when something happens. Examples include on, under, at, and so on.
So, there are several types of English prepositions, such as direction, place, and time.
You may have come across words like up, above, and on when reading English texts. When translated into Indonesian, they can all be related to the idea of “atas.” But what’s the difference between them? To understand the difference, you need to learn about what we call prepositions of direction.
In the direction category, you’ll find prepositions such as near, inside, on, beside, under, behind, in between, in front of, above, out of, and around.
